If you give your agent the power to transact virtually all personal business that might require your presence or signature, this is called a General Power of Attorney. Even a General Power of Attorney will require that the powers given be specified.\u00a0 Courts generally do not find documents saying \u201cmy agent can do anything I can do\u201d acceptable.<\/p>

An\u00a0Advance Medical Directive is similar to a Living Will in that it allows you to state your wishes concerning life prolonging treatment in the event you are terminally ill, death is imminent, and the medical procedures serve only to artificially prolong the dying process. However, an\u00a0Advance Medical Directive, unlike a Living Will, also allows you to express your wishes regarding medical treatment in situations other than a terminal illness where death is not imminent such as when you are in a vegetative state or in a coma with no likelihood of recovery, or when the quality of your life has greatly diminished.<\/p>
