Elder Law & Disability Planning
Elder Law is the practice of law pertaining to the elderly and disabled and their family members.
In practicing Elder Law, Angela Griffith drafts all legal documents that might be required, provide advice on eligibility for various government benefit programs, including Social Security and Disability, and assists in obtaining appropriate services for her clients.
When an individual has no one to help them handle their financial affairs or make medical decisions on their behalf should they become incapacitated, as part of Elder Law, Angela Griffith can take on that responsibility if the client wishes.
Angela’s emphasis in practicing Elder Law is always on working to provide her clients with solutions that meet their individual needs, preferences and values.
Disability Planning
Disability planning by Angela Griffith encompasses planning both for your personal care as well as your financial security in the event of incapacitation. Assigning a power of attorney gives another individual the right to make financial decisions should you be unable to do so. Advance medical directives allow you to make your medical wishes known.
Goal of Disability Planning:
The goal of disability planning is to provide for the needs of a disabled person through public programs and private efforts that do not interfere with the person’s eligibility for government benefits. It can include assisting parents, grandparents or others with their estate planning to provide for a disabled child. Angela also works with attorneys who have filed successful personal injury lawsuits to structure receipt of the funds so that they are used to supplement needed government benefits rather than disqualify the disabled person from receiving them. Angela drafts any necessary legal documents, particularly Special Needs Trusts.
Coordinating your estate plan and insurance to protect your interests is critical in disability planning. Angela collaborates with top financial advisors and retirement planners to make sure that everything is in order and effectively working in your best interests. Her priority in disability planning is laying the proper legal foundation to ensure that you and your loved ones are properly cared for, both personally and financially in the event of disability.
